A custom domain is the first part of your branded link, like rebrand.ly or rebrandly.rocks (but with your own company or product names).
You'll need to make a few decisions and take a few steps to get started with one: choosing how you'll get your domain, connecting it to Rebrandly, and configuring what happens when a link doesn't lead anywhere.
Decide how you'll get your domain
You have three options to get a custom domain, and your choice depends on how much technical setup you want to take on and whether you already own a domain you'd like to use.
I already have a domain, or I'll buy one from a registrar like GoDaddy
This requires manual DNS configuration, so it helps to have some technical comfort, but billing and management stay with your registrar. This option gives you direct control over the domain and what you do with it.
I'll purchase a domain through Rebrandly
With this option, you'll choose a domain from within Rebrandly, and we'll handle billing and technical connections automatically. Because we are a third-party reseller, your control over the domain's settings is much more limited, and you'll need our assistance to make any substantial changes, such as transferring it out of Rebrandly.
I'd rather use my existing website domain
This is a more advanced, technical path using an alias domain. It's not recommended unless you have the resources to set up and maintain it, since incorrect changes can affect your live site.
This is worth repeating: Taking this path could disable your website. Only choose this option if you are completely confident in your knowledge and ability to manage the domain.
Connect your own domain to Rebrandly
If you purchased your domain through Rebrandly, this step is done for you automatically. If you're bringing your own domain, you'll need to point it to Rebrandly by changing the DNS settings, and then add it to a workspace in your account.
Prevent link errors with landing pages (paid feature)
This feature is available on some paid plans. See our pricing page for details.
After your custom domain is set up, add a backup page for situations where someone visits the domain directly or clicks or types an invalid or broken link.
By setting up landing pages in your domain settings, visitors will always be redirected to the page of your choice when these mistakes occur.
If something's not working
Domain issues are usually DNS-related, and updates can take time to propagate. If your domain isn't working as expected, or you have billing or renewal questions, these articles can help:
