How do I know if a link is safe to click?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

To check whether a link is safe to click, enter it into the Rebrandly Link Checker.

We'll scan the URL for malware, phishing attempts, fake websites, and blocklisted sites. If we determine it's a malicious link, we'll let you know. And if that malicious link was shortened through Rebrandly, we block it immediately.

What makes a link look suspicious

They're not always easy to spot, but these are some common patterns to watch out for:

  • Misspellings or swapped letters and numbers
    amaz0n.com (zero instead of O)
    rebrandIy.com (capital i instead of L)
    micorsoft.com

  • Very long domains and many hyphens
    secure-update-account-verification-amazon.com

  • Urgent emails from companies you don't recognize
These try to scare people into clicking a link quickly..

  • Sent from the wrong sender
A “Google security alert” coming from a Hotmail address.
