How do I make a link password-protected?

Updated over a month ago
Rebrandly

You can generate links that require a password for access. This safeguards confidential information and content, enabling secure file, website, and resource sharing with a designated audience. Password-protected links allow the secure sharing of files, websites, and other resources with a designated audience, eliminating the risk of unauthorized access.

Creating Password-Protected Links:

Rebrandly offers two straightforward methods for generating password-protected links:

API: Utilize our API to establish password protection by simply embedding the preferred password within the link creation request.

Dashboard: Within your Rebrandly dashboard, a toggle labeled "Password-Protected Link" will display during link creation. Activate this toggle to enable password protection.

Rebrandly seamlessly encrypts the link password and securely stores it in its database. When someone clicks on the password-protected link, they will be prompted to input the correct password. If they provide the correct password, they will be directed to the intended content.

Analytics:

Rebrandly provides two crucial metrics for password-protected links:

  1. Click rate measures the number of times a password-protected link has been clicked, regardless of whether the password was entered correctly.

  2. Open rate measures the number of times a password-protected link has been successfully opened, indicating that the password was entered correctly.

On your Links page, the closed lock icon indicates a password has been set for that link.

  1. By clicking on the closed lock icon, you will be able to Change or Remove the password.

  1. If you remove the password, the link becomes accessible to anyone, and you will lose all previously collected link statistics. Changing the password won’t affect previously collected link statistics.

  2. The opened lock icon states that the password is not currently active on the link.
