New Data Privacy Rules in Europe
In May 2018, a new regulation called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect across Europe. This law impacts how companies around the world handle customer data, requiring stricter practices for processing and storing information.
What does GDPR mean for you?
The GDPR strengthens existing data protection laws and gives you more control over your personal information. As a result, companies like Rebrandly have had to update their policies to comply with these stricter regulations. We are committed to data security and privacy, and we take GDPR compliance seriously.
What is Personal Data?
The GDPR defines personal data as any information that can be used to identify a specific person. This includes things like your name, ID numbers, location data, online identifiers, and even details that reveal your physical appearance, genetics, or social background. Examples of personal data include telephone numbers, credit card numbers, account data, address, customer IDs and more.
Understanding Data Roles: Controllers vs Processors
The GDPR also clarifies the roles of organizations that handle personal data. A data controller decides why and how personal information is used, while a data processor works on behalf of the controller to handle that information.
