How can I troubleshoot when my links aren't working?

Updated over a month ago

Here are a some things you could check to identify and resolve problems with broken links:

  1. Deleted links - Check the Links page to verify the link has not been deleted. Deleted links cannot be restored, so you would need to create a new link to replace it.

  2. Destination URL - Is the destination itself an issue? Copy the destination URL from the link details and paste it into a browser to see if the website is up. If it's incorrect, edit the link to update the URL.

  3. Short link - Check if the shared link is mistyped or missing characters.

  4. Branded domain purchased outside of Rebrandly - Check that your domain is active. If you just purchased it, it can take up to 24 hours for it to activate. Click Domain in the top navigation menu to check the status.

If your domain was purchased through a provider like GoDaddy or name.com, check the status of your account, billing status, and your DNS settings. If the account is deactivated for any reason, the links will not work.

  5. Email verification for Rebrandly-purchased domains - If you bought a domain through Rebrandly, you should have received up to 5 emails to verify your email address. Check your inbox and spam folder for emails from OpenSRS with the subject of "WHOIS privacy validation."

If you fail to respond to these emails within 15 days, your domain will be suspended until verification, which is required by law. If you do not find the emails, contact our support team and we will help you through the rest of the process to re-activate your domain.

  6. Rebrandly system status - Verify that Rebrandly systems are functioning on our system status page.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, contact our support team for assistance.
