What is a vanity domain?

A vanity domain is a domain name, which is bought with the purpose of representing the person who registered it. It is personalised to communicate who owns it. Usually, a vanity domain refers to a domain name registered for an individual, but some use it to refer to domains registered for groups, organisations and businesses too.

A vanity domain should clearly represents who is behind it. For example www.johndoe.com would be a vanity domain.

Unlike dot brand domains, vanity domains are open to everyone and can be quite affordable, it just depends upon the availability of a name.

Often people will purchase a vanity domain to act as a base for their custom link shortener. This allows them to create branded links or vanity URLs, which feature their name, a keyword and have a higher CTR than normal links.
